Running a business in Las Vegas: 6 things to get right
Practical advice for Las Vegas and Henderson business owners: know your customer, get licensed, get found online, and use technology to save time.

Las Vegas is a great place to run a business: a growing population, no state income tax, and a steady stream of visitors. It also has its quirks. Here are six things we've seen make the biggest difference for the local businesses we work with.
1. Know whether you serve locals, visitors, or both
Las Vegas has two very different markets. Locals want reliability, convenience and relationships. Visitors want something memorable, right now, found from a phone. Many businesses serve both but market to neither clearly. Decide who your core customer is, then write your website, your Google profile and your ads for that person.
2. Get the licensing and paperwork right early
Depending on your business, you may need a Nevada state business license, a city or county license (Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas and Clark County each have their own), and industry-specific permits. Sorting this out up front avoids fines and delays later. The Nevada SilverFlume portal is a good starting point.
3. Make it easy to find you online
Before visiting or calling, almost everyone looks you up. At a minimum:
- A fast, mobile-friendly website that says clearly what you do and how to contact you
- A complete Google Business Profile with photos and reviews
- Consistent details (name, address, phone) everywhere online
See our local SEO checklist for the full list.
4. Treat customer service as marketing
In a city full of options, word of mouth and reviews carry a lot of weight. Respond quickly, follow up after jobs, and ask happy customers for a review. It's the cheapest marketing there is.
5. Use technology to buy back your time
Most small business owners we meet lose hours every week to repetitive work: re-typing orders into accounting software, chasing invoices, sending reminders, answering the same questions. A lot of this can be automated, often with tools you already pay for. Before hiring for admin work, it's worth asking what could run on its own. That's exactly what our automation work is about.
6. Plug into the local business community
The Henderson and Las Vegas chambers of commerce, industry groups and local networking events are genuinely useful here. Burger Tech itself got an early boost from the Henderson Chamber of Commerce. Local relationships lead to referrals, partners and good advice.
